Why we do what we do...

Tuckshop Dance Theatre is a UK based Dance Theatre company that make work in co-design with our audiences. Our work uses dance, digital media and a range of artistic disciplines to communicate to young people and family audiences. We are driven by imagined futures for culture, and the confluence of dance and digital media.

With creativity and wellbeing at the heart of what we do, we are curious about what young people need and how they can help to shape this rapidly evolving world to create the world they want to see. We work to address these questions, to over come challenges, and generate new possibilities for dance, play, and interaction, cultural learning, and curriculum development in creative, physical and digital contexts.

Tuckshop Dance Theatre provide a creative platform for youth voice, to shape identity, pride in place, to inspire and to empower children and young people to make positive life choices. We create opportunities for young people to affirm culture, explore heritage, to learn from others and better understand the world around them.

Our learning and engagement nurtures young people's health and well- being, boosts confidence and self- esteem, creates opportunities for play, with the vision to contribute to developing thriving citizens and future young creatives. We provide a safe space for children and young people to discover who they are and what they want to say to the world. Our performance work is relevant and reflects the world around us; absurd, wonderful, and paradoxical. We take our performance work to zoos, amusement parks, youth centres, out door spaces, theatres, museums, galleries, pop up venues, libraries, schools, colleges and online.

Tuckshop Dance Theatre was formed in 2016, by Lauren Tucker. Lauren is extremely passionate about developing her own creative practice to help young people to realise their full potential.
Lauren’s creative ethos intertwines deep and meaningful creative enquiry, metaphor, urban contemporary aesthetic, digital storytelling, flexible, creative, critical thinking, co-design with, by and for communities and audience centred sensitivity.

The company's most recent work, Neverland was supported by Arts Council England.

Why creative youth participation?

Youth Participation is integral to our work. We produce work that highlights valuable insights from young people, and what they want and need to develop in this world.

Participation in cultural learning and meaningful youth participation will:

Support young people to build confidence, and to improve self- esteem.
Increasing self- efficacy,
Increase knowledge of youth issues and to celebrate youth culture,
Skills in communication, team work, and leadership.

Neverland is a made up digital world shaped by the minds of young people!

Neverland as a dance and digital experience explores some of the issues young people face growing up online in a youth friendly way. It also celebrates social media as a creative tool for youth voice, self- expression that offers many benefits! We listened to young people and social media is not going away. Neverland raises digital awareness, but does not aim to frighten parents. Neverland exists to empower young people to navigate in the digital world. Creative Dance Education Offer that explores young people's perspectives on mental health, cyber bullying, building self esteem, image sharing, online behaviours, well being, resilience, and inclusion and technology.

We want to empower parents to start a conversation.
